Music Activities
Tastes in music varies greatly, so the links here are intended only to outline the wealth of choice available on the internet, and help set you on your way to finding your top musical choices.
Pre-Covid-19, Music in Hospital and Care provided Recorded-Live Music Performances in Hospital and Care Home settings across the UK. Since then they have made some of their concerts available online. One of our favourites is with The Retrosettes who, on Make Music Day 2020, set themselves a challenge of playing 26 songs in 26 minutes!
If you feel you’ve been missing out on Music Festivals and think that you or anyone you look after might enjoy reliving festival memories, Glastonbury has an extensive gallery of photos collected over many years showing the variety of its artists, crowds and artistic creations: https://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/gallery. Also on their website you can listen to the artists who played at the Virtual Glastonbury 2020..
Do you want to create your own playlist that contains the tracks of music you enjoy most? Or perhaps you’d like to create one for someone you care for? Playlist for Life has created a very useful resource – The 100 Years Book https://www.playlistforlife.org.uk/the-100-years-book. Though it’s now used by many people, it was originally developed to bring joy to dementia sufferers by helping their carers find the music they were likely to remember with pleasure. Also on Playlist for Life’s website, you’ll find the process to follow for creating a playlist with Spotify or iTunes etc.
Although it’s beyond the scope of this page to list the relevant links, if you have a musical instrument gathering dust and you’d like the opportunity to dust it off and have some lessons, since Covid 19, a number of music teachers offer free trials for online music lessons so if you like the idea, do explore what’s available.
Alternatively, if you’d like a bit of fun making homemade instruments to liven up your music listening sessions, this article https://redtri.com/homemade-instruments links to a number of imaginative possibilities to inspire you.
