1) Preparing for Caregiving

Our free online video course Preparing for Caregiving explores the 'What?', 'When?', 'Where?', 'Why?' and 'Who?' of looking after a family member or friend who, because of disability, illness or frailty, couldn’t manage otherwise. With 30 minutes of videos, and optional exercises included in the downloads, our course's short sessions are easy to complete in between other tasks. As well as helping people who have caring on the horizon, Preparing for Caregiving helps other family members, friends and colleagues to better understand the issues involved in caring for another person.

2) Listening to Podcasts – with BBC Sounds examples

Many people can feel isolated and out of touch. Listening to carefully chosen podcasts can help them be well informed and feel more connected. There’s a huge range available, all for free, on BBC Sounds. We’ve made this YouTube video Listening to Podcasts - with BBC Sounds examples to help you get the very best from it. Anyone, anywhere in the world on a computer with internet access can access BBC Sounds, and the free app can be downloaded for use on mobiles in the UK.

Top tip: downloading the free BBC Sounds App onto your phone gives you all sorts of possibilities. For example using small earphones (so that you can still hear your caree if they call), you can put your phone in your pocket, and listen to all sorts of interesting shows whilst getting on with chores. Then, if your caree needs you, it's easy to press ‘pause’ and later resume listening from where you left off. This way there's no fear of missing out because of interruptions.
